Ep 115: Why You Need To Think of Yourself as a Rebel
Show Notes

When you put yourself in this “straight jacket” of what you think is expected at work you hide a big part of your true essence.

These hidden parts of you that are light, funny, and silly, feel sad and a sense of loss that they’re locked away in this proverbial prison.

I encourage you to be a rebel.

Oppose the fictional authority created in your mind that being silly, funny, goofy, fill in the blank the ways you’re judging yourself and saying, “that’s not professional”..... are true.

They’re fiction. These “stories” are not supporting you in being the bad*ss you already are.

Bring that fun, funny, silly, goofy, “fill in the blank” side of you to work TODAY.

In St. Barts, thereʻs a candle brand out of NYC that is vegan and cruelty-free called Nomad Noe.

Inspired by little-known historical movers and shakers, each candle tells a story of courage and daring through exquisite blends of fragrance.

I fell in love with the scent called REBEL. Tuberose, gardenia, etc.

Here’s one of the reasons you experience feelings of emptiness, grief, and sadness.

You’re not being a REBEL.

The simple definition of rebel is to oppose the one in authority or control.

Now I’m not advocating getting fired or thrown in jail:-)

What I am suggesting is that you think about this.

Emptiness, grief, and sadness are clues you may be showing up at work acting in the way you THINK you should based on society's expectations.

I feel as an adult i have made these decisions like work, marriage that I have to manage and live with. She doesnt feel like life is fun anymore.

  • This is approved by society: Be smart, professional, and strategic
  • This is not approved: Don’t be silly, funny, or god forbid goofy.

When you put yourself in this “straight jacket” of what you think is expected at work you hide a big part of your true essence.

These hidden parts of you that are light, funny, and silly, feel sad and a sense of loss that they’re locked away in this proverbial prison.

You feel smaller.

Options are fewer now that I am an adult.

Think about those times and occassions when you felt alive. Married. College. Vacation. Be the watcher. How did you show up every day? General How did you feel?

I encourage you to be a rebel.

Oppose the fictional authority created in your mind that being silly, funny, goofy, fill in the blank the ways you’re judging yourself and saying, “that’s not professional”..... are true.

They’re fiction. These “stories” are not supporting you in being the bad*ss you already are.

Bring that funny, silly, goofy, “fill in the blank” side of you to work TODAY.

Encourage you to practice asking your brain each day this week, “ how can i bring my funny side to work today?”
